Shanti Gamper-Rabindran delivers Keynote Address at the Italian Association of Environmental and Resource Economists Annual Meeting

Associate Professor Shanti Gamper-Rabindran presented one of two keynote speeches at the annual meeting of the Italian Association of Environmental and Resource Economists. The conference was organized by and held at the University of Rome Tor Vergata.  Gamper-Rabindran spoke about the political and legal institutions in energy transition: the case of shale in the US. Her presentation described how US political and legal institutions, beyond market factors such as high expected gas prices, facilitated shale expansion. These institutions are rooted in US reliance on domestic oil and gas production as its key strategy for its energy security.  “I am very grateful to the organizers, including Alessio D’Amato, Mariangela Zoli and Laura Castellucci for this opportunity to learn from and exchange ideas with them on the challenges various countries face in transitioning to a lower carbon economy. As we were reminded by the first keynote speaker, Thomas Sterner, this transition is critical in light of the climate change," said Dr. Gamper-Rabindran
