The University of Pittsburgh chapter of Women In International Security (WIIS) is proudly announces “Peace and Security During Uncertain Times,” a week-long, virtual conference during October 5th-9th, 2020. As we approach the November U.S. presidential election, the world seems more tumultuous than ever. COVID-19 has exposed inequities in global health systems, including disproportionate burdens on women, migrants and refugees, and other marginalized and vulnerable populations. Climate change persists, and experts predict that rising temperatures will increase the risk of violence and armed conflict globally. The proliferation of nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction pose an evolving threat to U.S. national security, which Cold War-era foreign policy tools and institutions are not best-equipped to address.

Each night, panels will present an informative discussion concerning thesechallenges and how the next presidential Administration – regardless of who wins in November – might best move forward.

The agenda and speakers are currently being confirmed, but please mark your calendars for a thought-provoking series of nightly discussions.
