There’s a new face in the Dean’s suite in Posvar Hall this summer, but one that will be familiar to many within the Pitt community.
Dr. Luke Condra has been named the next associate dean of the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, a role that has for many years provided oversight to key areas of the School including faculty and research development, curriculum initiatives, and growing community engagement.
Since joining the Pitt community in the fall of 2011, Condra has served as assistant professor (2011-2019), associate professor (2019-present), and director of the Master of Public and International Affairs (MPIA) degree program (2020-2024). His appointment as associate dean began on July 1.
An expert in the politics of state-building in conflict-ridden and emerging democracies, his research on elections, insurgent violence, and public goods has been published in the American Economic Review, the American Journal of Political Science, the British Journal of Political Science, and the Journal of Politics, among other outlets.
Before coming to Pittsburgh, Condra was an Empirical Studies of Conflict postdoctoral scholar at the University of California, San Diego. He earned his A.B. from Duke University in 2003 and Ph.D. from Stanford University in 2010, both in political science.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve in this role and help the School continue building its capacity to tackle society’s problems through our teaching, research, and engagement initiatives,” Condra said this week. “I’m particularly excited to further improve our curriculum to make sure our students have the skills and knowledge necessary to shape public policy as soon as they leave Pitt and progress in their careers.”
