The Roscoe Robinson Jr. Memorial Lecture Series exists to foster discussion and understanding of key issues related to diversity in public service. It features at least two lectures per year in honor of the late Roscoe Robinson Jr. The series is designed to introduce students and members of the community to different perspectives, encourage civil debate, and promote critical thought and understanding.
Roscoe Robinson Jr., the U.S. Army’s first African American four-star general, graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1951 and earned the Bronze Star Medal for his service as a rifle company commander in the Korean War. He attended the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, in 1963, and then earned his Master of Public and International Affairs degree at the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs in 1964.
The Roscoe Robinson Jr. Memorial Endowment provides support for lectures and other programs that promote discussion and understanding—on campus, in the community, and beyond—of key issues related to diversity in public service.
The fund is administered through the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs.
