The world is a powerful classroom. Let us help you get there.
We understand that many students benefit from participating in an international experience program, enabling them to gain a global perspective and a deeper understanding of knowledge learned in the classroom. We also recognize the financial burden and limitations such opportunities can place upon a student. For these reasons, we're proud to offer a special funding program to support such experiences.
Through the support of donor funds, we can offer grants of $3,000-$4,000 for eligible* international experiences that are not internships. (Please note – the funding amount for international internships has recently been increased to $4000)
International experiences 3-30 days in length -- $3,000
International experiences 30+ days in length -- $4,000
Some examples of experiences eligible for funding are:
- Pitt Summer Language Institute (programs that include an international travel component)
- Study Trips (such as the Katz Global Research Practicum)
We are unable to fund the following:
- Experiences affiliated with political campaigns and individual elected officials
- Tuition-only expenses
Funds will be distributed at the discretion of the funding committee, and your application will be evaluated based on requirements. Funding is not guaranteed. All applications must follow university and school restrictions.
Please note these funds are awarded based on information available at the time award was made, such as academic college or department, major, enrollment status, as well as other possible variables. We reserve the right to adjust an award should your eligibility change after the award is made. Also note this award may affect other financial aid you have been offered. This means that if you owe money to the university, you may not receive the award. If you have questions about the impact of this award, please reach out to the Financial Aid Office at 412-624-7488 or finaid@pitt.edu.

- The last step is acknowledging that should you receive funding, you are open to sharing your experience with GSPIA and writing a statement of thanks to be shared with the donor and possibly in campaigns related to the importance of giving to GSPIA
Timeline:
- Applications are collected and reviewed on a rolling basis; you can expect to receive an email about the status of your application within 2-3 weeks.
- If you have been awarded funding, you will receive an award letter.
- The money you have been awarded will then be posted to your student account IF you do not have an outstanding balance (typically 2-3 weeks after you receive your award letter)
